FLiCX: Revenge of the Electric Car (2011)

In 2006, thousands of new electric cars were purposely destroyed by the
same car companies that built them. Today, less than 5 years later, the
electric car is back... with a vengeance. In "Revenge of the Electric
Car," director Chris Paine takes his film crew behind the closed doors
of Nissan, GM, and the Silicon Valley start-up Tesla Motors to chronicle
the story of the global resurgence of electric cars. Without using a
single drop of foreign oil, this new generation of car is America's
future: fast, furious, and cleaner than ever.

International Lens: O'er the Land (2009)

Guns, planes, flamethrowers, football games, border patrol officers,
and the landscape of the U.S. Southwest are among the heroic and iconic
symbols presented as subjective reminders of the way Americans have come
to understand freedom, progress, and strength and that these same
technologies can come at a high cost to the nation’s social and
environmental landscapes.
Held in conjunction with the
American Studies year-long program on sustainability. Funding provided
by the American Studies Sustainability Project and the Film Studies

Vanderbilt Green Fund Applications
Deadline: November 13th
The Vanderbilt Green Fund was
established in the spring of 2011 as a way of connecting student
sustainability ideas with the means to implement them. We are looking
for ideas that are both visible and educational in nature. Past projects
awarded have involved solar panels, light sensors, and shower timers.
Applications for projects will go out on September 25th and be due on
November 13th.
Eligible Projects may include but are not limited to:
- Reduce energy use and/or water consumption
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Install clean sources of energy
- Reduce sewage or pollutants
- Spur behavioral change to reduce energy or material consumption through education
Preference will be given to funding projects that have both environmental and economic benefit to Vanderbilt University.

VISAGE Study Abroad: Sustainable Building Design in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Interest Meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 1st @ 12:15pm, Student Life Center, Rm 109
(Instructor: Lori Troxel, School of Engineering)
This course is open to anyone on
campus. It is a one hour seminar in the spring of 2012 and a 4 week
study abroad in Belfast, Northern Ireland with a short trip to Spain.
Topics include policy and planning for sustainable developments, UK
responses to climate change, green economics, and sustainable
architecture.

AEC Green Screen Presents: Waste Land (2010)
Sunday, November 13, 2pm – 4 pm, Sarratt Cinema
Waste Land is an
Oscar-nominated film about a Brazilian artist who creates masterpieces
out of scavenged garbage. The film focuses mainly on the art itself and
the lifestyles of those living in the area of Rio that the film
analyzes, with the message of conservation and sustainability a strong
heartbeat beneath the surface of the action.
This event is free and open to the public.
