dc.description.abstract | Postdoctoral (postdoc) positions in mathematics are understood as factors influencing the achievement of mathematics faculty research positions at PhD granting institutions. This capstone study demonstrates that over the past fifteen years there has been no statistically significant change in the proportion of women awarded mathematics postdoc positions. This study also explores current recruitment and hiring practices of mathematics postdocs, which ultimately influence achievement of mathematics research faculty positions. Based upon the findings from this study and the review of current literature, steps for formalizing recruitment and hiring of mathematical postdocs are recommended to ensure unbiased and consistent practices exist in the field. | |
