Leadership and Learning in Organizations capstone project
As The Walmart Museum, a corporate museum in Bentonville, Arkansas, looks to undergo a major renovation and expansion, museum leaders seek to incorporate an educational space in the new venue. This capstone project explores measures that consider visitors’ learning styles and past experiences when developing the new space from the context of the sociocultural framework. It is essential that the educational area engage all patrons and help them gain a deeper understanding of the museum’s artifacts. The project implemented a mixed-methods approach, including an 18-question quantitative survey and semi-structured qualitative interviews. Findings suggest that watching, discussing, and touching are the best ways to learn. The museum must also consider all genders, non-English speakers and people with physical and learning disabilities when designing the learning space. Interactive technologies help patrons stay engaged and learn on a deeper level. In addition, the space should incorporate a discussion aspect and have a guide on hand to answer questions.
