About Ted Smith

Ted Smith does social ethics through theological engagement with the stuff of everyday life. He works both from and towards practices of ministry, broadly construed. Borrowing resources from historical studies, social theory, and moral philosophy, he spins thick accounts of practice that open into cultural criticism and political theology. Smith is the author of The New Measures: A Theological History of Democratic Practice, which engages debates about Christianity and democracy through a history of preaching. He also teaches and writes about homiletics, the ethics of sex, theologies of history, practical theology, and contemporary critical theory.
