Title: VUCast for April 26, 2009
Author: Wolf, Amy
Description: Includes descriptive metadata provided by producer in MP4 file: "Video @ Vanderbilt - Videos - VUCast for April 26, 2009." By Vanderbilt University. Amy Wolf reports on an unusual Vanderbilt connection to the television show Friday Night Lights: the fictional character Lyla Garrity, who hopes to attend Vanderbilt, is apparently following Vanderbilt's real-life Twitter feed. This real-life incarnation of "Garrity" expressed online her concern that she wouldn't be able to afford Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt News Service Associate Director Melanie Moran emailed "Garrity" to tell her about Vanderbilt's new expanded financial aid program, and received a tweet of thanks from her. A less elaborate connection to The Simpsons is also mentioned. Wolf reports on the new book by Assistant Professor of Law and Philosophy Nita Farahany, The Impact of Behavioral Sciences on Criminal Law, and Farahany is shown speaking about how genetic or neuroscientific evidence of predisposition to crime or violence may be as common in criminal trials of the future as DNA evidence is now. Finally, a clip of a dancing cockatoo, from the Web site Maniac World, is presented.
