| Description: | Includes descriptive metadata provided by producer in MP4 file: "Video @ Vanderbilt - Videos - VUCast: Have you ever tried eating on $16 a week? You will be surprised who was given that challenge in our latest VUCast for Jan. 29, 2010." By Vanderbilt University. Princine Lewis hosts and announces that General David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. Central Command and the officer leading the U.S. war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan, will speak at Vanderbilt on March 1, 2010. Carole Bartoo reports that 100 Vanderbilt second-year medical students were given the "SNAP Challenge" of eating for a week on $16, to impress on them the nutritional difficulties of patients who receive assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (i.e., food stamps). Students Jamie Robinson and David Marcovitz talk about their experience, and Lynn Webb, Medical School instructor and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, explains the assignment's purpose. Lewis describes the Web site of Vanderbilt's Office of Community, Neighborhood, and Government Relations, which includes an interactive map that shows Vanderbilt's connections with and effects upon each county in Middle Tennessee. |
