| Abstract: | This capstone project reveals my comprehensive understanding of ELL education in relation to the curriculum, teaching methods, assessment, the learner, and the learning context. The project consists of three parts: 1) philosophy of teaching, 2) using artifacts to demonstrate understanding of eight domains of the TESOL standards, and 3) the reflection upon all the knowledge I have learned in the ELL program. In the philosophy of teaching, I draw upon the core theories that most influence me as a teacher and illustrate my application of these theories in my future classroom. I state my commitment to create a learning-centered and student-centered teaching environment with communicative language emphasis. In the second part, I use eight artifacts as supportive evidence to demonstrate my deep understanding of the TESOL standards from the perspective of learners and learning, the learning environment, curriculum and assessment respectively. In the third part, I reflect upon the artifacts I collected and discuss the ways in which I bridge between theory and practice. I also identify the important questions regarding my future career development in the specific non-English native speaking environment where I will apply these teaching theories in practice, and explore ways to answer questions of authentic language use and differentiated instruction. |
